Biography

Daughter of Algarvian parents, Teresa Sofia Paulino was born in Lisbon in 1970 where she lived until the age of 23, then moved to the Algarve - Portugal where she currently lives and works. She was a Visual Arts teacher for several years, but now Art is her main commitment. She studied in Lisbon at the António Arroio School of Arts, then finished her bachelor's degree at the University of Algarve and finally completed her degree in Lisbon at the School of Arts and Technology. In 1999 she won “Concurso de ideias” for the roundabout at Faro´s Airport, that was the beginning of her career in sculpture with the well-known work "Os Observadores”(The Plane Watchers), concluded in 2001. In addition to sculptures made in stone and bronze, lately she has made pieces in metal, fiberglass and resins. She also works in the areas of painting, design, illustration, photography and animation.
She also makes individual and group exhibitions and participates in multiple contests. Her work methods consist in creating projects and design them, beginning with the researches and the modelling of the sketches and ending by turning them into real pieces of art that can be modelled in any size. As a teacher, she loves to teach anything related to art, to both children and adults, in her own workshop. Teresa main focus is about learning and experimenting everything regarding art and all the new technics that can be applied on it. With an extremely active life, it´s always motivating and challenging going through new experiences. Children, family and friends are her best inspiration. To Teresa Sofia live is synonymous of doing.
